KBS Additive Series for Solvent-Based Two-Component Polyurethane Furniture Coatings

Solvent-based 2K PU furniture coatings are widely used for their excellent gloss, hardness, chemical resistance, and durability. However, formulators face persistent challenges: pigment dispersion and color stability, floating and blossoming, settling and sagging, orange peel, fish eyes, dark foam, insufficient feel, and adhesion issues. The KBS additive series is designed to address these challenges across furniture topcoats, white and black topcoats, matt coatings, aluminum powder systems, and overprint varnish.

Why KBS Additives Matter in 2K PU Furniture Coatings

Eliminating Surface Defects and Improving Leveling

Our high performance wetting and levelling agents for for wood and furniture coatings as KBS-L3060, KBS-L333K, KBS-L331K, KBS-L410K, KBS-L358NK, and KBS-L3770 will improve wetting, leveling, and surface smoothness. They reduce orange peel and fish eyes, improve feel, and provide good alignment for matte powder and aluminum powder. KBS-L358NK is especially suitable for overprint varnish to improve long-wave leveling, while KBS-L3770 helps eliminate dark foam in PU matt varnish.

Improving Pigment Dispersion and Color Stability

Our highly efficient pigment and filler dispersing and wetting agents series for wood and furniture coatings as the KBS-F5000A, KBS-F4020, KBS-F110K, KBS-F173K, KBS-F5020, KBS-F7000, KBS-F1610A, and KBS-F104SK provide stable pigment dispersion. KBS-F110K delivers gloss, viscosity reduction, and excellent color development in white topcoats. KBS-F173K offers excellent dispersion, gloss, and color stability in alkyd-system black topcoats. KBS-F5020 and KBS-F7000 improve matte powder dispersion and gloss uniformity. KBS-F1610A is highly efficient for organic, inorganic, and carbon black pigments. KBS-F104SK improves floating color and blossom.

Controlling Rheology: Anti-Settling and Anti-Sagging

Our hot sales KBS rheology control additives series for for wood and furniture coatings as the KBS-C410K, KBS-C330K, KBS-C3600, and KBS-C3120X provide anti-settling and anti-sagging performance. KBS-C410K offers excellent anti-settling with small change of system viscosity and minimal effect on leveling and gloss. KBS-C330K, KBS-C3600, and KBS-C3120X are easily dispersed and do not affect gloss.

Defoaming and Foam Control

Our high performance defoamers and air release additives for wood and furniture coatings as KBS-X052K, KBS-X141K, KBS-X055K, and KBS-X053K combine compatibility and defoaming ability in PU systems. KBS-X055K offers good compatibility, excellent defoaming, and is not easy to cause shrinkage. These defoamers are suitable for PU furniture topcoats, matt varnish, overprint varnish, and thick-film systems.

Adhesion Promotion and Substrate Bonding

Our high performance cost adhesion promoters and coupling agents for wood and furniture coatings as KBS-Z0100, KBS-Z0200, and KBS-Z0300A improve adhesion to furniture substrates. They are designed for solvent-based 2K PU furniture coatings where enhanced substrate bonding is required.

Product Selection Guide

Practical Formulation Considerations

Loading levels. Additive dosage depends on the base resin system, pigment/filler loading, and target performance. Laboratory evaluation is recommended for each formulation.

Compatibility. The KBS series is compatible with PU, alkyd PU, matte powder, aluminum powder, and overprint varnish systems. KBS-F173K is designed for both organic and inorganic pigments in PU topcoats and alkyd black topcoats.

Processing. Add under moderate agitation. Dispersants are typically incorporated during the pigment dispersion stage. Anti-settling and thixotropic agents can be added during let-down or under controlled shear. Wetting and leveling agents and defoamers are generally added in the let-down stage.

Surface and feel. For matt and aluminum powder systems, KBS-L410K provides dry feel and good alignment. KBS-L333K and KBS-L331K improve feel and wetting. KBS-L358NK is suitable for overprint varnish.

Foam control. KBS-X055K is recommended where compatibility and strong defoaming are required without shrinkage. KBS-X052K and KBS-X141K combine compatibility and defoaming in PU systems.
